Isiuwa Oghagbon, Associate Attorney, Trachtman & Poler
This month's CatchUp is with Isiuwa Oghagbon, now an associate attorney at Trachtman & Poler.
Tell us about yourself and what you do now.
I'm an associate attorney from DC, now living and working in Brooklyn. In my new role I work across many practice areas, including employment law, copyright and trademark law, and commercial litigation. Before this role, I predominantly worked in plaintiff-side employment and labor law. Outside of my career, I'm a cat-mom to two hairless cats and enjoy spending time with family and friends.
What were you looking for when you connected with MomUp?
I wanted a role where I could continue doing high-quality legal work while having access to more practice areas. I was looking for a smaller, more collaborative team and a firm that valued my experience rather than just my billable hours.
What had been most challenging about your search?
It was hard to sort out which listings were legitimate, or which firms were actually looking to fill vacant positions. Many of the roles I found were either all-or-nothing, with demanding schedules and no flexibility, or they weren't a good match for my experience. After submitting many applications and rarely hearing back, I grew frustrated, and the process became a difficult journey.
How did MomUp help?
MomUp took the guesswork out of the process! They understood what I needed and only brought me opportunities that fit both my skills and my wants. From my first introduction to MomUp, it felt like having someone in my corner who got it.
Why did this role feel like the right fit?
From my first interview with the partners of the firm, I could tell they valued a collaborative work environment and mentorship. The smaller setting means meaningful responsibility and the opportunity to learn from talented attorneys. It's the first time in a while I've felt fully invested in my career.
What are you enjoying most about it?
I love the firm culture! I'm getting the chance to grow in my career, and I'm surrounded by colleagues who are smart, supportive, and respectful. The work I've been able to do has opened my eyes to an area of law I wouldn't have considered. I can feel myself becoming a well-rounded attorney.
What do you enjoy outside of work?
Outside of work I like to play racket sports or volleyball with friends. I'm also a foodie, and I'm so grateful to live in a city with such great access to amazing restaurants and diverse cuisines. Exploring different neighborhoods, by foot or bike, is another way I like to spend my time.
